Own an authentic piece of video game history!
In our attempt to collect and scan full runs of every video game magazines in our research library, we accumulate a lot of duplicates. Since these are not needed for any preservation purposes, we've decided to deaccession them and offer them up for sale to the general public.
Each month, subscribers get a randomly selected magazine from our archives, ranging from around 1982 to 2012. For an extra fee, you can also specify which year range you prefer!
Now selling pre-paid gift subscriptions!
Starting with the 2024 holiday season, we've begun offering pre-paid gift subscriptions at a discounted rate! Please note that we don't ship magazines until the start of the month, so if you order in December, the first issue will arrive in January.
We would be happy to send a physical or email card to let your recipient know about their gift! Just email us at info@gamehistory.org with your order number.
Magazines are shipped in Mylar bags and acid-free boards, in a sturdy flat mailer. Each issue also includes a certificate of authenticity.
All proceeds benefit our charity! Every cent of these sales goes directly toward expanding, maintaining and scanning our library of video game books and magazines, and turning our collection into a public resource.
FAQ
When do the magazines ship?
We ship out every outstanding order on the first week of every month, whether that's an individual issue or a subscription. So for example if you place an order on February 10th, your order will ship out the first week of March.
How do I manage my subscription?
The subscription management portal is available here, but we're also happy to help you ourselves: info@gamehistory.org.
What publications are included?
Every magazine is an English-language publication that primarily covers video and computer games. Most are multi-format, meaning they cover several systems, but some are system or company-specific (such as Sega Visions, Computer Gaming World, or Official PlayStation). Almost all of them originated from the United States, but we have the occasional British publication as well.
Okay, but what am I likely to get?
Statistically, over the years we've found that you're most likely to receive a popular multi-platform console magazine, such as Electronic Gaming Monthly or GamePro. A very close second would be Nintendo Power, specifically.
What condition are these in?
Conditions range from fair to mint - most are "loved," some are uncirculated, some are still in their sealed poly bags, even! But we can't guarantee any kind of collector quality here. These are our duplicates, after all.
Can I cancel a subscription at any time?
You may cancel a monthly subscription at any time!
Do you have ____?
Sorry, we're not doing individual issue inventory at this time and can't take requests - we're a tiny team, and saving video game history is a lot of work! THAT SAID, if you've got something that's really important to you (as in, they published your letter, or it's the last issue you're missing for a full set etc.), get in touch and we'll see what we can do - info@gamehistory.org.
